Portuguese saddles
As Portugal has a long equestrian tradition, Portuguese saddles have an ancient origin. As elsewhere, in Portugal the saddles have evolved over the time having in mind what have been consider the main priorities from equestrian activities, moving from a military purpose to the modern sports. Although there several Portuguese saddle models the traditional Portuguese saddle is certainly the best known both internationally and in Portugal. We can establish a parallelism between the Lusitano horse and the Portuguese saddle. In Portugal there are many horse breeds from many countries coexisting with the Portuguese horse breeds. However the Lusitano horse is the main horse breed reference. In the same way there are nowadays in Portugal many saddle models coming from many countries. However the Portuguese saddle is main saddle model reference when one thinks in a saddle in Portugal.

Equestrian Portugal
Equestrian Portugal is certainly related with Portugal’s existing horses, equestrian activities and products. Although there many horse breeds, from many countries, the Portuguese horse breeds and in particular the Lusitano horse plays a very prominent role in Portugal. The Lusitano horse is overall without any doubt the main horse breed reference in the Portuguese context despite for some equestrian disciplines other horse breeds from other countries have today a very important role. The Lusitano horse is very widely appreciated in Portugal due its versatility, concentration ability and docility. The Lusitano breed is also the best know Portuguese horse breed within and outside Portugal.

Portuguese olive oil
Olives have been cultivated in the region where Portugal is today for longer than Portugal’s existence as a country. Although it is though that the existence is earlier than the Romans certainly at that time olives were grown and olive oil was produced in where today is Portugal. Currently a remarkable dinamism in the establishment of new plantations and in the improvement from the management practices is being seen in Portugal. Most of the Portuguese olives are used for olive oil production just around 5 % of the total are used to be eaten as table olives.

Portuguese embroidery
Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Therefore embroidery can be seen as an art. Linen and cotton are the most used supporting materials for Portuguese embroidery. There is embroidery work that from being so rich they hide completely the supporting material. Although in Portugal embroidery has been not an exclusive work of women, traditionally young women use to do an embroidery outfit for their wedding.

Portuguese wine
Although Portugal has a small size is still amongst the 10 largest wine producers in the world. Abroad probably the best known Portuguese wines are the Port and Madeira wines. Both of them are fortified wines and were invented by accident. In the 17th and 18th centuries often wines were shipped for long distances and brandy was added as a preservative. Certainly the alliance made by Portugal and Britain through the Treaty of Windsor in 1386 was a starting point for the arrival of British that settled in Portugal as early as the 15th century. By the 18th century Port and Madeira wines were leading Portuguese exports.
