National Agricultural Fair 2009
The main agriculture fair in Portugal is the National Agricultural Fair “Feira Nacional da Agricultura”. This Fair is held at Centro Nacional de Exposições e Mercados Agrícolas (CNEMA) in Santarém which is the capital of the Portuguese region Ribatejo. The 2009 edition corresponds to the 46th National Agricultural Fair and the 56th Ribatejo Fair and will happen between the 6th and 14th of June. In this edition the main theme is “Water” due to its importance to the Portuguese agriculture.
However the National Agricultural Fair will also include many other topics and events such as the 2nd Food National Exhibition “Salão Nacional da Alimentação” the 3rd Olive Oil National Exhibition “Salão Nacional do Azeite” and the Portuguese Wine Fair “Festival Nacional do Vinho”. The Fair will have about 1000 animals from several species where horses have a special place. There will be several equestrian activities from the traditional working equitation made by “Campinos” to dressage exhibitions made by international and Olympic riders. The National Agricultural Fair will have the usual references to the country and agriculture with focus on agriculture, livestock, crafts, gastronomy, folk music, folk dancing.
